Durham School of Health and Nutrition (DSHN) seeks to admit students who are prepared to succeed academically and who are aligned with the school’s commitment to professionalism, responsibility, and lifelong learning. The following registration requirements outline the minimum educational qualifications for admission, options for mature students, criteria for advanced standing, and key policies related to withdrawal and communication. Applicants are encouraged to review this information carefully to ensure they meet eligibility requirements and understand their responsibilities prior to enrollment.
The minimum admissions requirement is one of the following:
- Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent
- General Educational Development (GED)
- Mature Student Status (MSS)
Mature Students:
Applicants 19 years of age on or before the first day of school and who do not hold an Ontario Secondary School Diploma or high school equivalent may be eligible for admission as mature students.
Advanced Standing:
Applicants applying for advanced standing must meet the following criteria:
- Credit transfer from an accredited post-secondary institution with a minimum final average of 80 percent in the identified course(s).
- Official transcript must be submitted before commencement of the program.
- Students must enroll in a minimum of 75 percent of the program offered at DSHN to qualify for a diploma issued by the same.
- Exemptions must be approved by program director.
- A statement of advanced standing will be issued to inform you if transfer credits are granted.
- A processing fee of $60 plus taxes is applicable.
Withdrawal Policy:
A written notice of withdrawal must be presented to the director in person or by registered mail for a student to be deemed officially withdrawn from a program. Failure to attend classes/absenteeism does not constitute withdrawal. See policy on refunds.
Communication:
Instruction is done in English. Use of email (unless unavailable) will be the primary means of communication, seconded by phone calls. Please check and respond to emails during regular business hours or as instructed.
