Course Description
This course introduces students to the essential principles of chemistry as they relate to nutrition and human health. Students will explore the chemical composition and metabolic processes of macronutrients and micronutrients, gaining a deep understanding of how food interacts with the body at the cellular and molecular levels. The course also examines how imbalances and deficiencies can contribute to disease, equipping students with the knowledge to support health through dietary and lifestyle interventions.
Students will learn:
- Understand the structure and function of carbohydrates, proteins, fats, vitamins, and minerals.
- Analyze how nutrients are metabolized and utilized by the body.
- Explore the biochemical pathways that support energy production, tissue growth, and repair.
- Examine the cellular mechanisms underlying disease and health promotion.
- Apply scientific principles to assess the nutritional impact of foods on overall wellbeing.
By the end of this course, students will have a solid foundation in the chemistry of life and nutrition, empowering them to make informed decisions and guide others toward optimal health.
