Course Description
This course explores how nutritional and lifestyle needs change across the human life cycle, from early development through aging and peak physical performance. Students gain a holistic, faith-informed understanding of how God designed the body to grow, adapt, and thrive at every stage of life, and how proper nutrition and lifestyle choices can support health, resilience, and longevity. Emphasis is placed on practical, real-world applications that equip students to guide individuals and families with compassion and confidence.
Through an integrative approach, the course examines the unique physiological, nutritional, and lifestyle requirements of children, older adults, and athletes. Students will learn to assess needs, recognize common challenges, and apply natural, nutrition-based strategies to promote balance, vitality, and optimal function throughout the lifespan.
Students will learn:
- Understand nutritional needs from prenatal development through adolescence, including strategies for addressing picky eating and common childhood concerns
- Identify environmental, social, and lifestyle factors that influence healthy growth and development in children
- Analyze age-related physiological changes and adapt nutrition and lifestyle recommendations to support healthy aging and longevity
- Recognize common degenerative conditions and lifestyle factors affecting the geriatric population
- Apply principles of athletic nutrition to support performance, endurance, recovery, and injury prevention
- Distinguish between aerobic and anaerobic exercise, muscle fiber types, and the nutritional demands of training and rehabilitation
By the end of this course, students will be equipped to support health across the life span with wisdom, discernment, and practical skill—honoring the body as a gift from God and promoting lifelong wellness through sound nutritional and lifestyle principles.
